Øyvind Østerud

Øyvind Østerud (1944–2025) was a prominent Norwegian academic and public intellectual known for his critical analysis of power structures in Norway. His work examined the state of democracy in the country, positing that it had become eroded over time. Østerud was deeply committed to the ideals of enlightenment and sought to engage a wider audience through media appearances, contrasting with many of his peers who distanced themselves from public discourse. He passed away at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of insightful commentary on democracy and governance.
