
Abdelhamid Hajem
Abdelhamid Hajem was a prominent Tunisian sculptor born on November 13, 1940, in Sfax. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis and later furthered his education at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, specializing in sculpture and printmaking. Hajem returned to Tunisia in 1968, where he began teaching sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis and became a key figure in the Tunisian art scene, known for his numerous exhibitions both locally and internationally. He received several awards, including the prestigious Sculpture Prize from President Habib Bourguiba in 1979 for a collaborative work with Zoubeir Turki. Hajem passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85, marking the end of an influential career in the plastic arts in Tunisia.
