
Aga Khan IV
Aga Khan IV, born Karim al-Husayni in 1936, was the 49th imam of the Ismaili sect of Shia Islam and the founder of the Aga Khan Development Network, which focuses on social and economic development in Asia and Africa. He served as a global leader and philanthropist, known for his efforts to improve living conditions for marginalized communities. His reign was marked by a commitment to modernizing the role of the imam, including significant initiatives in education, healthcare, and cultural preservation. He passed away in Lisbon in October 2023.
