Ahmed Husein al-Šara is the current leader of the Syrian Islamist government, having assumed power during the ongoing conflict in Syria. He has been in the news recently due to his forces’ involvement in violent actions against loyalists of Bashar al-Assad, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and accusations of ethnic cleansing.
