Aija Zariņa, born in 1954, was a prominent Latvian painter known for her significant contributions to the modernist art movement in Latvia. She played a pivotal role in transforming the artistic landscape by integrating the stylistic elements of earlier generations of modernist artists. Zariņa was a member of the Latvian Artists' Union from 1982 until 2018 and served as the director of its gallery from 2006 to 2012. Additionally, she worked as a set designer for three productions directed by Māra Ķimele at the New Riga Theatre.
