
Al-Shafi'i
Al-Shafi'i, a prominent Islamic scholar and jurist born in 767 CE, is best known for founding one of the four major Sunni legal schools of thought, known as the Shafi'i school. He made significant contributions to Islamic jurisprudence and is revered for his works on the principles of Islamic law, particularly his book 'Al-Risala.' Al-Shafi'i emphasized the importance of both the Quran and Hadith in legal rulings, establishing a systematic approach to jurisprudence that has had a lasting impact on Islamic legal thought and practice. He was recently in the news for visiting the poet Abu Nawas on his deathbed, engaging in a poignant discussion about life and repentance.
