Aldegundes Gomes

Aldegundes Gomes is a 90-year-old artisan from the village of Sarnadas in the Algarve region of Portugal, renowned for her beautiful creations made from esparto grass. As the oldest of four artisans at the Casa do Esparto, she passionately preserves the traditional craft of working with this wild fiber, producing both utilitarian and decorative pieces. In addition to her artistry, Aldegundes enjoys sharing her vivid memories and stories, finding joy and rest in her craft, even amidst her responsibilities at the local grocery store that has been a staple in the village.
