Aleksandr Milinkevich is a prominent Belarusian politician and activist known for his role in advocating for democracy and reforms in Belarus. Born in Grodno, he served as the deputy chairman of the Grodno City Executive Committee from 1990 to 1996, significantly contributing to the Belarusianization process in the region. In 2006, he was the unified opposition candidate in the presidential elections against Alexander Lukashenko. Milinkevich later founded the public movement 'For Freedom' and served as its leader until 2016. In recent years, he has acted as an advisor to opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and has been involved in organizing the 'Free Belarusian University'. His commitment to democratic values has made him a key figure in the Belarusian opposition.
