Alene Couto

Alene Couto is the Deputy Director of Public Health in Mozambique, known for her advocacy in tobacco control and health policy. Recently, she highlighted the significant economic and health impacts of tobacco consumption in Mozambique, revealing that the country incurs annual losses of approximately 11.7 billion meticais due to health issues related to smoking. During the launch of the Tobacco Investment Case Report, she emphasized the need for enhanced regulatory measures to mitigate these effects and proposed a strategic plan to promote healthier alternatives for tobacco farmers.
