Ales Ostravtsov was a Belarusian engineer, writer, and prominent figure in the national and democratic movements since the late Soviet era. After graduating from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute, he worked as an engineer before joining the Maxim Bogdanovich Museum, where he collaborated with Nobel laureate Ales Belyatsky. He served as the editor-in-chief of 'Jazz-Kvadrat,' a significant Russian-language jazz magazine in Minsk from 1997 to 2009, and authored the novel 'Sula.' Additionally, he translated renowned works from Polish to Belarusian, including the famous novel by Sergei Pesetskiy. Ostravtsov passed away recently, and his contributions to Belarusian culture and literature were commemorated at his farewell in a Minsk crematorium.
