Alexander Zhdanov

Alexander Zhdanov is a seasoned financial professional who has been appointed as the new head of the Deposit Insurance Agency (АСВ) in Russia, effective January 13, 2026. Prior to this role, he served as the director of the Financial Recovery Department at the Central Bank of Russia since June 2017. Zhdanov's extensive experience in the banking sector, which began in 2000, has equipped him with a deep understanding of financial systems and regulations. He takes over the leadership of the AСВ following the arrest of his predecessor, Andrei Melnikov, who was accused of embezzling approximately 4 billion rubles.
