He is celebrated for composing the music for 'Hora Unirii,' a national anthem symbolizing the unification of the Romanian principalities. Flechtenmacher studied at the Vienna Conservatory and held various prestigious positions, including the first director of the National University of Music in Bucharest. He was also the creator of Romania's first operetta, 'Baba Hârca,' and made pivotal contributions to the development of Romanian operatic and theatrical music.
