Alfreð Erling Þórðarson has been deemed not guilty due to insanity in a double murder case in Neskaupstaður from the previous August. He is required to undergo security custody in a suitable institution and to pay a total of 31 million ISK in compensation to the relatives of the couple he murdered. This ruling was delivered by the East Iceland District Court, which concluded that Alfreð poses a danger and it is a priority to ensure both his safety and the safety of prison staff by placing him in a psychiatric facility.
