Alphonse K., born in 1951 and a naturalized French citizen, served as the dean of the medical faculty in Butare, Rwanda, during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. He has been charged in France with genocide, crimes against humanity, and conspiracy to commit these crimes, due to his alleged involvement in facilitating the genocide and failing to oppose the atrocities committed against the Tutsi population.
