Amar Singh Chamkila

Amar Singh Chamkila was a renowned Punjabi singer-songwriter and musician, celebrated for his unique blend of traditional Punjabi folk music and contemporary sounds. Born in 1967 in Punjab, India, he gained fame in the 1980s with his vibrant performances and hit songs that resonated with the youth. Chamkila's career was tragically cut short when he was assassinated in 1988 at the age of 21, but his legacy continues to influence Punjabi music today. Recently, he was in the news for being the subject of the Netflix biopic 'Amar Singh Chamkila', starring Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh, which has been nominated for an International Emmy Award.
