Amenhotep IV

Amenhotep IV

politician Egypt

Also known as Akhenaten, Amenhotep IV was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, who ruled during the mid-14th century BCE. He is best known for his religious revolution, which introduced the worship of Aten, the sun disc, as the sole deity, effectively shifting Egypt from polytheism to a form of monotheism. This radical change included the establishment of a new capital city, Akhetaten (modern Amarna), dedicated to Aten. His reign is marked by significant artistic and cultural developments, but it ended with the abandonment of his religious reforms shortly after his death.
