Amparo Carvajal
Amparo Carvajal, an 86-year-old human rights defender, has dedicated over five decades to advocating for the rights of marginalized groups in Bolivia. Originally from Spain, she arrived in Bolivia during a dictatorship and has since been instrumental in various social justice movements, including those for indigenous rights and political prisoners. Despite her significant contributions, her recent eviction from the headquarters of the Asamblea Permanente de Derechos Humanos de Bolivia (Apdhb) has left her homeless and reliant on public donations for survival, while she continues to attend to human rights complaints from the community.
