Anđelo Bečiu is an Italian cardinal who served as a high-ranking official in the Vatican until his dismissal by Pope Francis in 2020. He was convicted of embezzlement and fraud in December 2023, receiving a sentence of five and a half years. Despite his conviction, Bečiu maintains his innocence and has chosen not to participate in the conclave for the election of a new pope following the death of Pope Francis in April 2023.
