Ana Matarrita

Ana Matarrita is the first Afro-Costa Rican mayor of Limón, having taken office in May 2024. She is dedicated to improving the infrastructure, security, and environmental conditions of her canton. Matarrita has undertaken significant initiatives, such as implementing a new solid waste collection schedule to enhance public safety and advocating against being designated as a dumping ground for waste from other regions. She aims to promote economic reactivation and cultural programs to engage youth and reduce crime rates. Her leadership focuses on addressing long-standing issues in Limón while fostering a sense of pride and community among its residents.
