Andrey Podnyabenniy

Andrey Podnyabenniy, a 36-year-old Belarusian political prisoner originally from Khabarovsk, Russia, became known for his activism against urban development in his neighborhood and for his role as an election observer during the controversial 2020 elections in Belarus. After being detained in November 2021, he was sentenced to 15 years in a high-security prison on multiple charges, including terrorism and creating an extremist organization. His tragic death in a solitary confinement cell has raised concerns about the treatment of political prisoners in Belarus.
