Anna Engelking

Anna Engelking is a Polish anthropologist and sociologist, known for her research on Belarusian identity and rural culture. A professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, she has authored significant works, including her monograph 'Kolgazniki,' which examines the lives and thoughts of Belarusian peasants at the turn of the 21st century. Engelking has dedicated over fifteen years to field research in Belarus, focusing on the collective memory of collectivization and the impact of historical events on local identities. She advocates for the recognition of the peasant’s role in Belarusian national identity and has expressed a desire for a monument honoring the Belarusian peasant in Minsk.
