Anna Sandak

Dr. Anna Sandak is a Polish researcher and professor at the InnoRenew CoE, University of Primorska, Slovenia, specializing in engineering living materials for sustainable construction. With a Ph.D. in wood science and a master's degree in biology, she has secured significant European funding for her projects, including the ARCHI-SKIN and REMEDY initiatives, which focus on developing protective coatings from fungal biofilms and probiotic architectural inks. Her work emphasizes the use of nature-inspired solutions to enhance the functionality and sustainability of building materials. Recently, she was in the news for participating in the Mission Possible expedition, which aimed to send living materials, including fungi, into space for testing under microgravity conditions.
