Anna Walentynowicz

Anna Walentynowicz was a Polish shipyard worker and activist, known for her pivotal role in the establishment of the Solidarity movement in Poland. Her dismissal from the Gdańsk Shipyard in August 1980 sparked a massive strike that led to the formation of the first independent trade union in a Soviet bloc country, marking a significant step towards the end of communist rule in Eastern Europe.
