Anselmo Villar

Anselmo Villar was the lighthouse keeper at La Barraca near Torre del Mar during the Spanish Civil War. He is remembered for his courageous act of extinguishing the lighthouse's light to protect fleeing civilians from being targeted by enemy ships, a decision that ultimately led to his execution shortly thereafter.
