Anthony de la Roche
Anthony de la Roche was a British sailor who famously discovered South Georgia in 1675. He named the islands 'Phipps Islands' in honor of Samuel Phipps, the Secretary of the Admiralty. His exploration contributed to the early mapping of the region, paving the way for future expeditions, including those by Captain James Cook, who later renamed the islands after King George III.
