Antonio Cañizares Llovera, born in 1945 in Valencia, Spain, is a prominent Spanish cardinal and the archbishop emeritus of Valencia. Appointed a cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, Cañizares has served as vice president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference during two terms. He recently made headlines for not attending the conclave to elect the new pope due to health reasons.
