Antônio Martins Palma

Antônio Martins Palma was a Spanish navigator who, along with his wife, Leonor Gonçalves, promised to build a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Candelária after surviving a storm at sea, ultimately leading to the establishment of the iconic Igreja da Candelária in Rio de Janeiro.
