Apolonia Flores
Apolonia Flores is a Paraguayan woman who, at the age of 12, became a symbol of resistance against the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner. In 1980, she was arrested and shot while advocating for basic services in her rural community of Acaraymi. Her story, which highlights the repression faced by children during Stroessner's regime, has been documented in a recent comic that recounts the struggles of women against the dictatorship. Apolonia's refusal to abandon her community for the promises of the dictator led to her imprisonment, making her one of the many victims of political persecution in Paraguay's history.
