Arnold Odermatt

Arnold Odermatt, born in 1923 in Stans, Switzerland, was a police officer and photographer known for his unique aesthetic of disaster captured through his photographs of car accidents. Serving in the Nidwalden police from 1948 to 1990, he revolutionized the use of photography in police reporting, creating images that transcended mere documentation to possess an artistic quality. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale and the Art Institute of Chicago, establishing him as a significant figure in Swiss photography.
