
Arthur Phillip
Arthur Phillip was a British naval officer and the first Governor of New South Wales, Australia, serving from 1788 to 1792. He is best known for leading the First Fleet to Australia, establishing a penal colony at Port Jackson, and laying the foundations for the future development of Sydney. Before his significant role in Australia, he lived in Lyndhurst, located in the New Forest, where he developed his naval career.
