Arthur Shields

Arthur Shields was an Irish actor known for his significant role in the 1916 Easter Rising, where he temporarily abandoned his theatrical career to join the fight for Irish independence. A member of the Irish Volunteers, he participated in the rising while also maintaining a successful acting career, later appearing in notable productions such as Sean O’Casey's 'The Plough and the Stars.' Shields was the brother of acclaimed actor Barry Fitzgerald and contributed to the cultural landscape of Ireland both on stage and through his involvement in pivotal historical events.
