Atelea Mapapalangi

Atelea Mapapalangi, of Tongan and Māori descent, is a dedicated airman in the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) who has been recognized as the 2025 RNZAF Aviator of the Year. Since joining the service in 2019, he has engaged actively with both leadership and community initiatives, particularly through the Youth Development Unit. Fluent in te reo Māori and experienced in traditional martial arts, he has a strong connection to his Māori culture and plays a significant role in cultural events and ceremonies. Inspired by his family's military background, especially his grandfather who served over 30 years in the RNZAF, Mapapalangi is committed to making a positive impact within the service and his community.
