Athanasios Kourementzas
Athanasios Kourementzas, originally from Thiva, was only 19 years old when he was selected for execution by the Germans in May 1944. His life was spared due to the bravery of Thrasivoulos Kalafatakis, who, along with others, intervened to save him by taking the place of an older man in the execution lineup. Kourementzas went on to have a successful career, eventually working for the Bank of Credit.
