Avdo Palić
Avdo Palić was a Bosnian military officer and the commander of the defense of Žepa during the Bosnian War. Known for his bravery, he voluntarily engaged in negotiations with Serbian forces led by war criminal Ratko Mladić, risking his life to facilitate the evacuation of civilians from the besieged town. Captured in July 1995, Palić was later presumed killed during a forced exchange. His remains were discovered in a mass grave in 2001, and DNA testing confirmed his identity in 2009. Palić is remembered as a symbol of resistance and humanity in one of the darkest periods of Bosnian history.
