Baltazar Ushca

Baltazar Ushca was known as the last ice vendor of Chimborazo, a traditional role where he would ascend the Chimborazo volcano to collect and sell blocks of ice to local communities. His work was vital for families without electricity, enabling them to preserve food. After his passing in November 2024, a bronze sculpture was erected in his honor at the municipal museum in Guano, showcasing his legacy and the cultural significance of ice harvesting in the region.
