Bao Dai, born Nguyễn Phúc Vĩnh Thụy in 1913, was the last emperor of the Nguyen dynasty in Vietnam, reigning from 1926 until his abdication in 1945. His reign was marked by a tumultuous period in Vietnamese history, including French colonial rule and the rise of nationalism. Despite his royal status, Bao Dai struggled to maintain power and was often seen as a puppet of the French. After his abdication, he lived in exile for many years before returning to Vietnam in the 1940s. He is a controversial figure in Vietnamese history, with opinions divided on his legacy.
