Baqi Zaki Youssef

Baqi Zaki Youssef was a notable Egyptian military engineer born in 1931, renowned for his critical role in the October 1973 War. A graduate of the military academy with a specialization in engineering, he initially worked on the Aswan High Dam project, where he gained valuable experience in earth-moving techniques. During the war, he proposed an innovative idea to use water pumps to breach the formidable Bar Lev Line, which was considered impregnable by Israeli forces. His strategy led to the successful crossing of Egyptian troops into Sinai, marking a pivotal moment in the war. Youssef's contributions earned him recognition and honors, including the Order of the Republic from former President Hosni Mubarak. He remained a symbol of patriotism and collective effort until his passing in June 2018.
