Bartholomew Broughton
Bartholomew Broughton was an ex-convict who founded Tasmania's first commercial vineyard in Hobart around 1823. His vineyard produced exceptional sparkling wines, one of which is said to have won a medal at a prestigious exhibition in Paris, marking a significant moment in Tasmania's winemaking history before the vineyard fell into disuse after his death in 1829.
