Basavraj Keshava Rao, commonly known by his alias Basavraj, was a prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and served as the general secretary of the organization. Born in Jiyyannapeta, Telangana, he was an engineer by education, having graduated from the Regional Engineering College in Warangal. Known for his strategic leadership, Basavraj was a member of the Politburo and Central Military Commission of CPI(Maoist). He had a significant bounty of Rs 1 crore placed on his head by various government agencies due to his involvement in Naxalite activities. Recently, he was in the news as he was killed during an anti-Naxal operation conducted by security forces in Chhattisgarh, which resulted in the deaths of several top Naxal commanders.
