Basil Assad
Basil Assad was the eldest son of Hafez Assad and Anisa Assad, and he was regarded as the heir apparent to his father's presidency. He was groomed for leadership within the Syrian government but tragically died in a car accident in 1994. His death significantly impacted the Assad family's political dynamics and paved the way for his younger brother, Bashar Assad, to assume power after Hafez's death in 2000. Basil's remains were also disturbed in the recent incidents surrounding the family's gravesite amid the ongoing unrest in Syria.
