
Baumanis
Baumanis (1905-1992) was a pioneering figure in Latvian basketball, known for leading the national team to victory in the first European Championship in 1935. He began his basketball journey as a student and became a two-time Latvian champion with the Jaunekļu kristīgās savienības team. Under his guidance, the team also secured a silver medal in the 1939 European Championship. Besides his coaching career, Baumanis served as a military officer and emigrated from Latvia after World War II. His legacy continues to inspire future generations, as commemorated by a recently unveiled monument in Riga.
