Berthe Brincour
Berthe Brincour (1879-1947) was a pioneering Luxembourgish artist known for her remarkable contributions to painting and drawing, particularly in the genres of landscapes and floral still lifes. Born in Luxembourg City, she pursued her artistic education at a prestigious women's academy in Munich from 1899 to 1905, making her one of the few women artists of her time to receive formal training. Throughout her life, Brincour lived in various cities including Dachau, Geneva, and Paris, where she was part of vibrant artistic communities. Despite facing health challenges, she remained prolific, producing a body of work that reflects her deep connection to nature and human emotion. Her art has been largely overlooked for decades, but a retrospective exhibition at the National Museum of History and Art in Luxembourg in 2026 aims to bring renewed attention to her legacy.
