Betty Paoli

Betty Paoli, born in 1814 in Vienna, was a notable writer and journalist, recognized as an early feminist within the male-dominated cultural landscape of her time. Despite being relatively unknown after her death in 1894, she made significant contributions to literature through her poetry and essays, often critiquing social norms and male arrogance. Her work reflected themes of longing, social dysfunction, and isolation, making her a unique voice of the Biedermeier era. A new biography and selected works have recently brought renewed attention to her life and legacy.
