He relocated to Germany with his family in 1968 and initially trained as a parquet layer before pursuing a career in acting. His breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed film 'Duvara Karşı' (Head-On), directed by Fatih Akın, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Ünel's intense performances resonated with audiences, establishing him as a prominent figure in both Turkish and international cinema. Sadly, he battled liver cancer and passed away on September 3, 2020, at the age of 59, leaving behind a legacy of impactful films that touched millions.
