Bjarni Hjaltested Þórarinsson

Bjarni Hjaltested Þórarinsson was a prominent Icelandic artist and theorist, born on March 1, 1947, in Reykjavík. He was a founding member of the Gallery Suðurgata 7 and the magazine Svarts á hvítu, playing a pivotal role in the Icelandic contemporary art scene during the 1970s. An innovator in visual theory, he coined the term 'sjónhátt' in 1988, which became central to his work as a visual artist, poet, and screenwriter. Bjarni was also a co-founder of several educational institutions and cultural initiatives, contributing significantly to Icelandic culture through his diverse creative endeavors.
