Boris Frlec

Boris Frlec was a distinguished Slovenian diplomat and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, known for his significant contributions during Slovenia's transition to European Union and NATO membership. He served as foreign minister from 1997, during a pivotal time for Slovenia's international positioning. A chemist by training, Frlec earned his PhD in chemical sciences in 1965 and had a prolific academic career, including a directorship at the Jožef Stefan Institute. His scientific achievements were recognized with numerous awards, including several from the Boris Kidrič Fund. Frlec's legacy is marked by his role in enhancing Slovenia's presence on the global stage and mentoring future generations of researchers.
