She serves as the director of Awa Associates, a research and evaluation company focusing on Māori and Pasifika communities, and holds prominent roles as deputy chair of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Ranginui and chair of the Whakamārama Community Hall Committee. Borrell is dedicated to ensuring that the voices and needs of her community, particularly Māori women, are represented in local government.
