Brisa Burcardo

Brisa Burcardo is a Miskito journalist and indigenous rights advocate from Nicaragua, currently living in exile due to her outspoken criticism of the violence and land invasions affecting indigenous communities in her homeland. She has documented the forced displacement of indigenous peoples and the impact of extractivism fueled by the Ortega-Murillo regime. Burcardo fled Nicaragua in 2023 after facing threats from the authorities for exposing human rights violations, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for recognition and protection of indigenous rights.
