Bulbul Kartanbaeva is a former Kazakhstani ice hockey player who made history as the first woman from Kazakhstan to compete in the National Hockey League (NHL). After moving to North America in 2018, she transitioned into coaching and founded a women's hockey academy, which has grown significantly under her leadership. Kartanbaeva has been an advocate for the development of women's hockey in Kazakhstan, and she recently commented on the national team's success in winning a silver medal at the 2025 Asian Winter Games.
