Burke and Wills
Burke and Wills were the first European explorers to traverse inland Australia, embarking on a significant expedition in the 1860s that aimed to reach the Gulf of Carpentaria. Their journey is marked by tragedy, as both explorers died on their return journey at Cooper’s Creek, after which only one member of their party, John King, survived, thanks to the assistance of the Yandruwandha Indigenous people.
